About us, the dream - and how it all began
"Rosie Lee Vintage" was created by myself, LeeAnn, and my husband Ian. As a child I was always fascinated by the beautiful, delicate, colourful china and crockery that I'd see when I visited my grandparents or older relatives houses. My family would buy me tiny tea sets of my own that I treasured and had my own tea parties with my dolls and teddies and imagined myself back in those days when people would have such beautiful pieces for every day use, (although everyone always had a set put away "for best" that no one was allowed to touch!) and I was so obsessed, my dad even nicknamed me "Rosie Lee" and I'd love him calling me when he'd shout "Rosie Lee - come to me" !!
That started my love of all things vintage and it has grown with me ever since. After performing as a vintage singer for many years at many vintage events across the UK, the one thing we often saw lacking was the ambience and magic that a beautifully laid vintage table could add to these events. Many tables were dressed in an attempt to look fitting with the genre and the rooms may have looked the part, but the finishing touches were missing. The delicate crockery, Auntie Adas embroidered tablecloth, only brought out for special occasions, beautiful napkins grandma always insisted on, steaming individual teapots (not a white cup filled from an urn), three layered cake stands filled with enticing nibbles and served with a chic cake slice, cubes of sugar served with tiny sugar tongs and a table laid to visually take you back to a time of a more simple, yet glamorous era.
Having fallen in love with all things vintage from an early age and being raised by parents who embraced the era, on seeing these events missing such a special piece of the experience, it was only natural that the next step was to indulge a passion I had been nurturing for years and between myself and Ian, who, thankfully shares my passion, we embarked on a mission to buy, collect, discover and inherit as many beautiful pieces as we could. Family tea sets that had never been used, some dating back to the 1920s and 30s, table linen that has been lovingly refreshed, laundered and coveted, the smaller items that create the effect, all seemed to come together like it was meant to be. We adored researching these items, at the same time discovering many things about our family histories and, when purchasing other pieces, we wondered at the background behind them, who they had been bought for, what the occasion might have been, and the excitement and emotion that was now etched in each piece forever. This just added to our enchantment with vintage and our love of each item as we acquired even more. The only area we decided to be a little more cautious with was cutlery. For hygiene reasons we have sourced more recent replicas or added shabby chic style pieces to fit seamlessly in. So by hiring from us, you are not only hiring vintage, you are hiring a little piece of history and a lot of our passion. xx
